BARBETTE
(2023)

This work brings a small piece of queer circus history back to life in this aerial straps homage to Barbette: an enigmatic, gender-bending icon who graced the stages of European cabarets and music halls 100 years ago. This work was made possible by the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts; La TOHU in Montréal, Québec; and the contributions of many talented artists and creatives.

LE NUMÉRO BARBETTE is an exultant reminder that queer and trans people have always been here; that these ways of being in the world that have always existed and have value; and that strange beauty can be found in everything. For more on this project, pick up a copy of SLOW CIRCUS: BARBETTE .

VACUUM (2020)

VACUUM is the only act of its kind in the world: a contortion solo performed within the dangerous confines of a specially modified latex vacuum tower. This unsettling work explores transitory/liminal states, ab/normalcy, risk and spectacle, and the fine line between what we deem beautiful and what we deem grotesque. VACUUM can be presented as a short (5 to 7 minute) number or installed as a durational performance piece.

The research and creation of this work was made possible through the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. To learn more, pick up a copy of SLOW CIRCUS: VACUUM.
