This issue contains one creative non-fiction piece and one essay to take a look at how terror and liminality collide within the circus – a space which is often more strongly associated with joy and happiness.

The stories and essays in these zines try to unpack the ways we’ve constructed notions of what’s ‘normal’ and what’s ‘not normal’ in an easy-to-read style – because what better place is there than the circus to dive into joyful deconstructions of the things we consider ‘written in stone’ about what we do and why do it; about why we do circus, and why we watch it?

WRITING THE CIRCUS is the first zine series from Strange Wonderful Creature: they are short, half-fold DIY zine (16-24 pgs) written from 2020 – 2021 and are DIY: as in, they feel and look like hand-made, hand-folded, hand-stapled zines.
